Whether onscreen or off, Tom Cruise is known for loving fast cars and motorbikes. Whether it is the iconic scene from Top Gun, where Cruise is blasting along on a Kawasaki GPZ900R, rather than his F-14 Tomcat daily driver, or his iconic Porsche 928 from the movie Risky Business (which sold for nearly $2 million), fast two- and four-wheeled machines are never far from the movie legend's big screen characters.
Cruise, who famously uttered the words "I feel the need, the need for speed" in Top Gun, has also amassed a large collection of vehicles since becoming a star too, but there is one car that is the rarest of them all
Tom Cruise's Owns A Rare Custom Mustang
Saleen may be more famous for the very special S7 supercar, but the American firm is also a well-known tuner of Mustangs. Tom Cruise's Saleen is an S281 and painted in bright orange supercharged version, with a 4.6-liter V8 under the hood pushing out 535 hp and 525 lb-ft of torque.
The car is one of the last before the facelifted model arrived and featured a series of upgrades under the pumped-up 'Stang bodywork, that had been treated to a smattering of aero bumpers, hood scoops, and spoilers.
The car also had upgraded suspension and could be specced with optional 14.0-inch slotted and vented front discs along with four-piston monoblock calipers. All the power is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual and limited-slip differential.
The Saleen S281 Is A Rare Version Of The Fifth-Generation Mustang
According to the Saleen Owners and Enthusiasts Club (Soec.org) there were 4,669 Saleen versions of the fifth-generation Mustang between 2005 and 2009. Of these, 4,006 were various versions of the S281 and 1,320 of those were the supercharged coupe versions.
When the car was launched in 2005 it had a pretty pricey base price of $51,934, but that would be pocket change for an international superstar. Some Saleen Mustangs are even rarer.
